The history of the sculpture.

Technically, the creation of the sculpture "Arnolfini Imago Mundi" (Imago Mundi from Latin meaning "image of the world") was completed in 2021. The philosophy of the sculpture "Arnolfini Imago Mundi" was formed in early 2022 with a reference to the emotional resemblance to Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini in Jan van Eyck's 1434 painting "The Arnolfini Portrait". May the late hero of the double portrait forgive me for the pretext for contemplation and the reason for the concept of "Arnolfini Imago Mundi" MMXXII.

Background:

Nature, as we know, is quite an experimenter. Once while walking, I picked up a piece of driftwood that seemed to look at me with a sad, reproachful gaze. I brought it to my workshop, cleaned it of dirt, and put it in a box with my brushes. There, it stood for 15 years. One day, while taking a brush out of the box, my son said, "The reincarnation of Giovanni. Just like the world, everything becomes unhappier, cloaked in holiness until someone remembers you." He gave it form, the right name and identity, and perfected the base and philosophy of Arnolfini Imago Mundi in 2021. That's how the sculpture came to life and found its author.

Sculpture Philosophy

On Jan van Eyck's double portrait, Arnolfini is only concerned with himself. His surroundings - his wife, the Passion of Christ in a mirror frame, the little dog at his feet - are status symbols. The merchant's essence of reflection is written on his face. Over the next five centuries, the world slowly becomes more complicated, and only in the middle of the 20th century, it transforms into a post-industrial society. The scientific and technological revolution sets in motion the process of resource extraction on the planet in a geometric progression. It seemed like good times for spreading comfort.

"Difficult times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create difficult times".

- G. Michael Hopf

I cannot tell you how the 21st century will unfold. Most likely, it will follow a familiar scenario - love will cool in many ways, and the attributes of sanctity and life will become closer to summer (see Jan van Eyck - gloss). It is all just a consequence of causes.

The sculpture "Arnolfini Imago Mundi" is a mirror given to us by nature itself. This is what the image of the world says:

I am you, human. Doing much for comfort.
And destroying the comfort of others for ambitions and dogma.
