The Thirteenth Apostle – A linocut about destiny in life
A series of three linocuts: The Thirteenth Apostle, The Sixth House, and The Thirteenth Christmas was created by the author in 2003. In each of the three works, the author embedded a personal meaning, printed, and then destroyed the prototypes. The first linocut in the series is The Thirteenth Apostle.

Author's Meaning.
In the linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle", the author embedded a meaning of discovering one's individual life purpose, whatever that might mean to the owner and whatever consequences it may bring. According to the author's intent, this linocut will bring its owner a true, personal meaning of existence determined from above. For some, it might be better not to know this meaning, while for others, it may be essential. Such was the author's idea. All three prototypes used for printing the series have been destroyed.
History of the Linocuts.
Over the past 20 years, a small number of copies of "The Thirteenth Apostle" have been gifted: to worthy individuals, some of the author’s friends, and a few thoughtful strangers. Fifteen prints remain, each signed with its own number on the back in fine pencil. The linocuts "The Thirteenth Apostle" were printed in 2003 as part of a series including two others: "The Thirteenth Christmas" (13 remaining) and "The Sixth House" (14 remaining).
Limited Edition.
A drawback of the linocut technique is the softness of the printing plate: even under light pressure from a manual printing press, the linoleum slightly deforms. This makes large print runs impossible. It is precisely this limitation that defined the limited edition of the linocut "The Thirteenth Apostle". Each linocut is unique because linoleum, unlike hard wood, is soft and malleable, resulting in distinctive impressions. Moreover, each print was made using handmade paper, each sheet possessing its own individual texture, color, composition, and thickness.
Blockchain Certification.
The linocuts offered for sale at the Gostev's auction are accompanied by a unique authenticity certificate recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain. You can verify the originality by comparing the hash of the PDF file and the signature on the blockchain. All materials are available in the respective auction lots.
Auction.
Linocut No. 4, with a blockchain-authenticated certificate, launches a series of eleven auctions where the artist reserves the right to choose the winner provided the reserve price is met. The reserve price will remain hidden. In each of the eleven auctions, the reserve price will vary, and the artist may select the winner based on who reaches the reserve price first, rather than the highest final bid.
Description of the Linocuts.
- No. 1: “The Thirteenth Apostle” is printed on thin paper with beautiful flecks of onion skin and features an even, rich print.
- No. 2: This linocut is printed on thick greenish-toned paper, with a pronounced relief on the reverse side and flecks of fine green field grass.
- No. 3: Printed on medium-thickness paper with an even print.
- No. 4: Thin paper with minimal gaps in the ink coverage.
- No. 5: Very thin paper with a smooth, even print.
- No. 6: Soft blue-toned paper with elegant ink gaps and a marbled pattern of rice husks visible on the reverse side.
- No. 7: Clean pinkish paper with occasional ink gaps and a few specks visible on the reverse.
- No. 8: Thin greenish-toned paper, richly infused with bronze-colored onion husks, printed in a deep indigo shade.
- No. 9: A sheet resembling fragile ancient parchment, with bronze inclusions and a turquoise-black ink layer that creates a star-dust effect along the edges, reminiscent of the Milky Way.
- No. 10: Thin paper with dark specks, covered with a delicate layer of ink revealing faint traces of the linoleum’s texture.
- No. 11: Paper with a pinkish tone and ink in a noble shade of deep blue.
The last four numbers are currently not available for sale.
Ownership.
According to the author’s intention, the work becomes deeply personal once touched by a new owner. Nothing further about other aspects is known to the author.

Investment Value.
Although the value of the linocut is primarily sacred, it may also acquire certain financial significance. This depends on several factors.
