A conversation between two women, radiating sunlight and warmth. What are they talking about? Of course about men! And the untouched banana gently points us to the theme of their dialogue—hopes, unspent emotions, and the unpredictable nature of love.

- Anatoli Gostev

The painting as a conversation about the whims of love.

What do women talk about? The theme of women's conversations in a sunlit city has become a true masterpiece of painting by Anatoli Gostev. One of the artist’s warmest works, featuring a stunning color palette. During the creative process, the artist replaced evening light with noonday brightness, filling the canvas with the sun-drenched atmosphere of a southern city so intensely that the warmth seems to pour out of the painting. It fills the space with the lazy charm of two ladies in conversation.

The painting feels like a window into Italy. In its original version, to the right of the women was a wicker chair, and the color palette depicted a sunset. The working title of the painting was: “Conversation in Rome”, which was reflected in the deep red hues of the city.

The hallmark of a true masterpiece lies in the feeling it evokes. The artist infused the canvas with pure emotion. Somehow, the emotions of true painters—those who fully dedicate themselves to their craft—are embedded in the work. When people feel this without question, the painting is called a masterpiece.
