Autumn – A masterpiece of three seasons
Landscape "Autumn "– a painting immersed in three seasons: autumn, the fading summer, and the winter yet to come. A masterpiece of seasonal transitions expressed through emotions. Created in 2010
Size: Height: 50 cm Width: 60 cm
It's not necessary to paint cliché yellow and red autumn leaves to capture the mood of the season. Three blue trees in the painting sink into the slumber of autumn. The warm hues of the departing summer seem to melt away, giving way to the approaching winter. And when memories of those gentle autumn days arise, softened by time and winter’s chill, the right colors appear on the palette, and the brush—discarding all excess—dives into autumn.
– Anatoli Gostev
Immersed in Autumn
In the painting "Autumn," the artist creates a tranquil atmosphere of transition. The three blue trees likely symbolize more than just seasonal change—perhaps a reflection on the triad of life’s stages or the cyclical nature of time. The blue tone of the trees may convey melancholy or nostalgia, marking the shift from the vivid warmth of summer to the cooler, more subdued tones of winter.
The lingering warmth of summer gently dissolves, its colors fading into the chill of fall and winter, creating a seamless harmony between the seasons. Memories of past summers tenderly intertwine with the present, evoking a bittersweet mix of joy and longing.
Inspiration lies in the act of painting autumn itself. Stripping away the unnecessary, Gostev immerses himself in the season, crafting a work of art that invites the viewer to feel the changing seasons on an emotional and nostalgic level.
The Story Behind the Painting
The painting "Autumn" was completed by Anatoli Gostev in 2010, shortly after twelve of his works were lost at the K-Galerie im Maxforum in Munich—a loss that cast a shadow over that period. Rather than dwell on the search, he recreated some of the stolen pieces and channeled his emotions into new work. "Autumn" emerged during this pivotal moment, marking a new creative chapter in his artistic journey.
