Interpretation of Spring.

The painting "Red Road" embodies a symbolic representation of the arrival of spring and a new beginning. Here is how the artist Anatoli Gostev described the painting's interpretation of the impending spring:

Spring is always the onset of the new and the cleansing of the old, unnecessary. A man with a cart removes the remnants of the past, while a woman hopefully gazes at the red road and the awakening landscape still cool in the morning. Winter retreats, yielding its place to the colors and new hopes.

- Anatoli Gostev

Painting of Hope.

Only hope saves from loneliness and despair. Hope for meeting, love, embraces, and warmth. Strength is born in hope and expectation. The painting "Red Road" sums up hope and expectation in the artist's narratives.

A man, removing the remnants of the past, and a woman, with a gaze full of hope for the future, create a contrasting image, reflecting the transition from old to new. The red road, upon which the woman gazes, symbolizes not only the change of seasons but also the transition to new possibilities. The awakening landscape and the cool morning emphasize the energy and freshness of the air, bringing into the painting a sense of renewal and the promise of new beginnings.

History of the Painting.

The artist wrote the first version of the painting "Red Road" in 2007. At the end of 2009, there were sixteen paintings by Anatoli Gostev on permanent display at the K-Galerie im Maxforum gallery in Munich. After suffering a stroke, the gallery owner, Klaus Uchtman, became incapacitated, and his son Olaf hastily closed the gallery. During the liquidation of the gallery, twelve paintings by Gostev disappeared. Among the missing or stolen paintings was the first version of the "Red Road".

Feeling nostalgic, Gostev rewrites the "Red Road" and several other missing paintings. In a different way, much better.

The artist overcomes regret with the quality of painting, not by searching for what was lost.

Anatoli Gostev particularly loved this painting, as if he saw the upcoming spring in it. He wrote leisurely, completing it in 2014, but succumbed to temptation and made changes until 2021, each time enjoying the process and anticipating his favorite season.

In the context of the painting, Gostev spoke about emotional connection:

When we talk about nature, we should not forget that we are part of it and that we should eagerly absorb the feelings associated with it, just as if we were studying a close person, because there is a connection between us and the rest of the world.

Sensory Working Method.

It can be said that after the artist's journey to the cradle of the "Blue Rider", Murnau by the Staffelsee lake, there was a kind of rethinking, as he put it: from copying nature to feeling its essence, to abstraction and conveying the essence of sensations.

Continuing the theme of working with sensation in the painting "Red Road", he talked about his method:

My working method is simple - I put off the idea of the painting for six months. I paint Winter in Summer, Autumn in Spring. Six months is enough for filtering sensations, choosing color, and composition, not relying on any theory, it is based on observation, feeling, and memories. I am inspired by the sensation that spring brings and the pure colors of the awakening nature, trying to achieve such saturation of impressions that creates the painting.

The pursuit of intensity itself forces to disregard reality, highlighting and enhancing the main thing, but this is the pursuit of painting, filled with balance and purity.

Participation in Exhibitions.

In 2021, the painting "Red Road" was presented at the ART Climate Change exhibition, Novum Investments in Basel, Switzerland. Anatoli Gostev participated as a special, honorary guest.
