I completely repainted it anew. Everything around boils down to simple geometric shapes. It’s as simple as music—a masterpiece can contain simple scales. Multiplicity, on the contrary, sounds like cacophony.

- Anatoli Gostev (1946-2022)

Impression of the Painting.

Still life "Green Bottle and Pears" – the chemistry of color, the master's experiments. The geometry of objects in the cubist style seems to close the composition upon itself. The fluorescent color palette disrupts reality, leaving the viewer with a supernatural harmony and completeness of the painting.

Creation of the Painting.

The still life was created in 2007. In 2020, the artist completely repainted it, simplifying it to the maximum. Gostev praised the beauty of everyday objects, and a still life is a perfect theme to capture simplicity. A narrow color palette did not prevent the artist from masterfully creating a color extravaganza. He often noted that mastery of coloristics lies not in the number of colors, but in their correct combination.

Fate of the Painting.

Probably, the painting was not considered finished by the artist’s own standards, although it must be said that all his canvases can be regarded as complete at any stage—Gostev painted from the general to the particular. The painting "Green Bottle and Pears" never participated in exhibitions and remained in the artist’s studio until his passing in 2022.
