Interpretation of Cubism

The artist's account of the painting "Still Life with Fruits" on the author's website Gostev's Fine Art:

The desire to interpret the experience of the cubism founders (Juan Gris, Braque, and partly Picasso) as a denial of painterly freedom and excessive literariness in the space of the canvas led to the combination of various objects assembled into one composition. It was an attempt to enter the world of simple things and an attempt to move away from the images imposed by socialist realism, an attempt to return to basic geometric forms. Thanks to such a play with form, objects acquire a new emotional meaning, returning to the origins of ancient civilizations' art.

The idea of "replacing reality" developed by the masters suggests that the real object is the painting itself, and the artist's task is to organize, construct the painting regardless of the depicted object, which can be distorted and reinterpreted beyond recognition. "It is not the painting that should correspond to the object, but the object should correspond to the painting," said Juan Gris.

The most difficult task in this always consists in ensuring that the painting, despite the abstraction of the objects assembled in it, does not lose its charm and brings clarity to the viewer's emotional state.

History of the Still Life

The creation of the painting "Still Life with Fruits" began in 2013, as evidenced by the signature and date on the back of the canvas. Deliberation and contemplation were inherent in the artist - the composition, color palette were phenomenally balanced by the masters.

Still Life with Fruits was completed by Gostev in 2016. A true masterpiece of contemporary art.

Impression of the Painting

The still life on the verge of cubism fills the interior with a sense of balance and simplicity. The objects in the painting also mystically become the property of the painting owner, uncompromisingly asserting the right to exist of the table, fruits, bottle, utensils within their own laws of geometry.

The table with the objects is so firmly embedded in the universe that if the world were to shake, the composition would not budge.
