The Road to the Last Tree – Reflection in Painting

More than a quarter of a century ago, in the dead of winter, I was driving home. On both sides stretched a dense forest with snow-covered trees, bound by the frost into a single frozen, icy mass.

The first glance at this dipinto defines the feeling of the season. It is a harsh winter. Do not be deceived by the reddish hues in the tree trunks – they are symbols of life, the living blood within the forest, which has paused for a moment in the frost of winter. Life within and cold without.

He knew how to play with the plots of life, how to weave causes into effects. In such a way as to draw out a semblance of meaning. The road through this forest led to the Last Tree. A tree of absolute strength, which he painted for 33 years until his very death. It is no wonder that my father also mentioned the forest.

European critics spoke of him as the Last Artist, who embodied the experience of the great masters of painting.
