Paul Gauguin — Painting Gallery of the Great Master of Post-Impressionism

Paul Gauguin was a pioneer of the Symbolist art movement in France and paved the way for Fauvism and Expressionism. Gauguin came to art late in life. Little in his early years hinted at his phenomenal artistic career; however, his nomadic upbringing fueled his restless need to travel to exotic places.

In 1890, Paul Gauguin needed a miracle. His wife Mette-Sophie left him, taking their five children with her. His old friend Vincent van Gogh had committed suicide. His artistic career had hit a dead end, and he was penniless.

Anatoli Gostev drew inspiration from Paul Gauguin's paintings in works such as "The Red Road," "The Lake," and "The Lake of Encounters."
