Theme for a painting and fauvism Inspired by Jim Jarmusch

The painting depicts a city that the artist Anatoli Gostev Jr. has never visited — Tangier. The painting of this North African city was inspired by Jim Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive, where events unfold at night in Tangier.

This is an amazing reflection on impartiality toward place, object, and narrative in painting — offering freedom to create one's own path through fauvism, composition, and vivid emotional expression on canvas. The figure in the painting moves against the flow, and the artist lovingly thinks of his half-sister living near Tangier — she stops, turns to the viewer, and tries to say something to them.
