Aristarkh Lentulov — Works and Gallery of Paintings Created Between 1910 and 1922
Aristarkh Vasilyevich Lentulov (1882–1943) was one of the brightest representatives of the Russian avant-garde — an artist who united Fauvism, Cubism, and Cubo-Futurism in his unique, decoratively ornamental pictorial system.
His paintings bring together visual art, music, and poetry, creating a world of metaphors and imagery. Closely connected with the major artistic movements of his time and being one of the organizers of the “Jack of Diamonds” exhibitions, Lentulov nevertheless remained faithful to the idea of decorativeness and festive monumentality. He boldly experimented with color and form, borrowing the rhythms and light of Paris and refracting them through the prism of Russian monumental tradition. Lentulov’s goal was never to follow fashion — his art was always an attempt to “clothe” space in a new chromatic and plastic language.
Throughout his life, Aristarkh Lentulov created several hundred works of painting and graphic art — from small watercolors to large decorative canvases and stage design sketches.
We have selected more than 50 paintings created by Lentulov between 1910 and 1922 for publication for several reasons:

Aristarkh Lentulov left behind a rich legacy that significantly influenced the development of Russian avant-garde. Lentulov firmly believed that color and rhythm could transform space — whether it was a canvas, a stage set, or a monumental composition. Legacy and Value of Aristarkh Lentulov’s Works
Lentulov’s paintings regularly appear at international auctions and in catalogues of specialized Russian art sales. Their prices reflect both artistic importance and the rarity of large-scale canvases.
In 2007, the painting Town in Southern Russia was sold at a London session of Sotheby’s for over $3.5 million, marking one of the record moments on the contemporary market for Lentulov’s works. MacDougall’s and other specialized houses continue to offer his paintings in a range from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand pounds, depending on size and condition.
